We are midsummer and busy as usual. Coming up is our
Soroptimist Birthday Party. This is a new event designed to celebrate all
our club birthdays at one huge party. We'll all bring gifts to exchange
and enjoy great food and swimming.
Womenade is looming in the very
near future. Committees are steadily meeting to carry our plans for this
exciting event. It will, again, be held at the Davis Barn on September 30.
Our exciting new theme is "Rockwall Idol." For several weeks preceding the
event, we will hold preliminary competitions at Culpeppers in Rockwall.
They will take place on Tuesday nights with each contestant paying $10 per song
entered. A panel of judges will tally scores and a final group of 3 will
be chosen to perform and compete at the big Womenade Banquet. These lucky
contestants will be awarded cash prizes of $300, $200, and $100, as first,
second and third places.
On July 19, Sandy Hanson and
Karen Straughn, our president-elect, will head to Philadelphia for the
Federation Meeting. We are all excited to hear what they will learn as
they report back on their return.
